In 1957, the town of Oakville, Ontario celebrated the 100 years of its incorporation in 1857. From June 29th to July 6th, this centennial celebration included a parade, fair, music concerts, street decorations, crowning of Joan Fairfax (nee Eileen Pickup) as Miss Oakville Centennial, planting of an oak tree, a banquet and fireworks among other activities.
